Day One: Quelle heure est-il?

Shosha and I have no idea what time it is.  Daylight Savings just went into effect yesterday.  (Or is it out of effect?  Does anyone in our generation even understand what Daylight Savings is?)  This afternoon we crossed into Central Time Zone at some point in Tennessee.  So I think it’s 10:40 PM even though my computer says it’s 11:40 PM and my watch says it’s 12:40 AM.  (?)

We embarked on our cross country adventure this morning at 7:15 AM from Chez Capps in frosty Liberty, South Carolina and drove through North Carolina and almost all of Tennessee before arriving in Memphis around 5:30 PM/6:30 PM/7:30 PM and have enjoyed a fun and relaxing evening at the home of the lovely Mr. and Mrs. Woods.  (Thanks, y’all!)

Tomorrow we journey to Dallas, Texas.  It’s our shortest leg of the trip, so hopefully we’ll have a little time to see downtown Memphis and perhaps some of Dallas.  Or at least eat some barbeque.  That’s all I really care about. Let’s be honest.  (I’m going to make a more enthusiastic omnivore out of Shosha yet.  Just stop thinking about it, Upton Sinclair!)

Lots of love and blue suede shoes.

Fahrvergnügen!

Tomorrow morning I’ll be joining my friend Shosha and her boxer puppy, Luna, on their cross-country move to Davis, California.  Although Shosha’s car is rather small (think Steve Urkel’s car*), Luna will indeed be riding inside the vehicle and not on top of it as she would if she belonged to Mitt Romney.

I’ve only visited California briefly for a BlogHer conference in San Francisco with the Obama campaign, and I’ve never driven cross-country.  So I’m stoked.  Right now I’m unemployed and verging on broke, so what better time could there possibly be for such an adventure?  My parents thought so at least. </snark>  I’ll be flying back to the east coast at some point in the next couple of weeks.

It remains to be seen how diligent I will be in updating this site.  But I’ll try.  This is my first earnest attempt at blogging since retiring the LaurinLine (R.I.P.), so bear with me.

*And now I’ll leave you with Steve Urkel’s car.  In German.  The episode, that is.  Well, and the car actually.
